IronOaks Tennis Club and Sun Lakes HOA 3 are co-hosting “A Veterans Day Celebration” at the IronOaks Tennis Club courts on

Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

The event honors those who have served and showcases the Grand Canyon University men’s and women’s tennis teams, as well as the Sun Lakes Community. Sponsors include Francine Nolan and Kara Maggio of Cactus Mountain Properties, Carey and Trish Kolb of The Kolb Team, Suzy Steinmann of The Redeemed Team, Charlee Young of The Young Home Team, and Sun Lakes residents Tony and Kaipo Simonelli.

Sign up for Team Tennis, and enjoy a weekly match on Monday evenings at 6 p.m. This six-week session begins on September 29 and concludes on November 3. Can't play weekly? Be a sub! Sign up on the tennis bulletin board outside the fitness center. Be sure to indicate your level (A-B-C-D).

Four teams were formed with players across various skill levels (A, B, C, D).
Each team has a captain + unique team name.
Matches:
A & B players play one 8-game pro set.
C & D players play one 8-game pro set.
No-ad scoring. Every game won = 1 point for your team.
Each team plays every other team twice.

Can’t commit weekly? Join as a substitute player!

fun new IronOaks tradition!

Great News! The Chelsea Tennis Reservations app is now available for download on both Apple and Android smartphones. With this app, you can:

· Create a profile

· Reserve a court and time if you’re inside the 4-day window

· Request a court and time if you’re outside the 4-day window

· Review your upcoming schedule

· See your friend’s schedules

· See a court sheet listing of who’s playing on which court

Once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll need the Chelsea club code (IRON200) and your member number to activate usage. Your member number and password are the same.

February 10-15, 2025 - Mixed Doubles Results

The IOTC Mixed Double Tournament has finished. A field of 13 teams played during the week, and the finals were held on Saturday followed by a nice lunch and some good ol' fashion club socializing. Congratulations to our 2025 champions and runners up. In the 4.0 division, Cathy Coin & Bob Lynne earned top honors followed by
Ellen Maurer & Jerry Geizzler coming in second. In the 4.0 consolation bracket, Kristina Traylor & Jack Sanders nipped Karen Tucker & Jack Fredrickson in a third set tie break to bring home that prize. Our 3.5 winners are Lois Newman & Art Baessler who edged out Jo Lucas & Rick Kenny. The matches were great, the weather held out for us, and we hope a good time was had by all. Congratulations again to our new club champs and "many" thanks to all the volunteers who carried this off without a hitch.

IRONOAKS TENNIS CLUB’S END-OF-YEAR CELEBRATION A SMASHING SUCCESS.

IronOaks tennis members were treated to a complimentary buffet-style dinner catered by Famous Dave's BBQ on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

Kristina Traylor, the Tennis Play Director for the board, expertly orchestrated the event with assistance from the Alley Cats, a Valley of the Sun tennis team in Sun Lakes. “The tennis club financed the celebration with proceeds from last year’s Jason Morton Tennis Classic,” a spokesperson mentioned. This prestigious annual tournament, hosted at the IronOaks Tennis Center, attracts top-tier players nationwide. It will be held again this year from February 26 through March 2, 2025 at the IronOaks Tennis Club.

We need to pull together to save our courts, and your involvement is critical!

This is an all-points bulletin for tennis members to attend the Master Planning Committee/HOA meeting on January 8th at 9am in the Oakwood ballroom. It is paramount that you understand the status of the Master Planning Committee process regarding expansion of the fitness/wellness center. Some of the concepts floated to date are based on taking tennis courts, so if you want to preserve our assets, learn, and get involved. At the meeting on January 8^th, details will be provided on how to sign up for homeowner input sessions to be held later in January. Plan to sign up.

Do not rely on rumors. Go to the meeting and get educated. Again, the future of your courts will depend on this. Please step up and help ensure that the legacy of IronOaks Tennis is preserved and be sure to pass the word around.

Tennis players and pickleball players worked together to raise over $34,000 for Neighbors Who Care, well above the $25,000 goal. The committee members pictured here worked hard to achieve this amazing figure. Thanks to them, to all our sponsors, and to all the players and contributors who made this event so successful. Monday, 4/2/2024 - Big Crowd Enjoyed the Year-End Potluck

The food was delicious as always, but the best part was having a chance to socialize with our IronOaks Tennis Club friends off the court. Thanks to Vivian and Norb Guimond for chairing this event, and to Vonnie and Wade Knoss and Rosalie and Joe Azzaro for assisting them. Volunteers make our club great and more are always needed. Be sure to sign up for an event next year.

Thursday, 3/28/2024 - IOTC Members Shine at Jason Morton Tournament!

The competition was fierce, with close to 280 players participating, but IronOaks Tennis Club was well represented in the winners’ circle at the recent Jason Morton Tournament.

The following IOTC members were champions of their division:

Saturday, 2/24/2024 - Valentine Event Success

Slightly wet courts didn’t dampen the spirits of everyone who attended the annual Valentine Social on Saturday, February 10. The turnout for tennis was low, but a large crowd gathered to enjoy ice cream sundaes, cake, and Carol Mellinger’s beautiful cookies. A good time was had by all! Thanks to organizers Carole Rockland, Edith Tanniru, and Claire Wilcox.

Thursday, 2/22/2024 - Club Social Hosted by Cottonwood Tennis Club

This coming Saturday (2/24/2024), Cottonwood Tennis Club will be hosting IOTC for a tennis social. Click here to view the play schedule. The event will start at 9:00 AM. Each match will start on the hour and go for 57 minutes The winners will be determined by: Whoever is ahead at the end of the session (57 minutes), or … First team to 10 games, win by 2 games. Monday, 1/22/2024 - Election of Club Officers

The IOTC's election process, for two positions of Board of Directors, is underway and being conducted according to the bylaws of the club. This year the positions of President and Secretary will be filled for a two year term beginning on May 1st, 2024. The election committee will be collecting candidate names and will submit the candidate list at the Feb.5th club board meeting. Saturday, 121/23/2023 - Gender Doubles Tournament

Calling on all IOTC members to sign up for the first event of 2024! The Gender Doubles Tournament will begin on Monday, January 15th and run through Saturday January 20th. Matches will be held each day at 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM. Please sign up with your partner on the IOTC bulletin board. Players will self-rate. The winners from last year's tournament will need to split up or play at the next level. Note that we will have a 75+ bracket. These players may participate in more than one bracket if they choose. If you don't have a partner and want to play, sign up anyhow and we will see if we can match you up!

Saturday, 11/11/2023 - Bradshaw/Neu Tournament Sign-up Revised

Many folks have had problems with the new on-line application that the Cottonwood Tennis Club wants everyone to use. Even to the point that some will not attempt to sign up and therefore not play. Rick Kenny was able to work with the organizers to have a simplified process to get entry information and the fee to them before the November 22 draw close. Rick will collect the entry, info and payment, from each player and hand carry the entries to Cottonwood on the afternoon of Dec 22.

Monday, 11/6/2023 - Fall Fiesta and Clothing Sale Success

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make our “Welcome Back Fall Fiesta” such a great success. The courts were packed with 68 players, and more than 80 people enjoyed tasty “walking tacos” and ice cream sundaes for lunch. Our clothing sale netted more than $1400 which we can use towards more special events for our members.

Tuesday, 11/31/2023 - Robson Ranch Visited IOTC

The IOTC VS Robson Ranch tennis social on Saturday, October 28th went well. We had a combined 35 players and several spectators. A light breakfast including coffee, donuts and fruit was served. Lunch consisted of burritos, rice, beans ,chips and guacamole and cookies. All participants reported having a great time! Robson Ranch scored 18 points versus IOTC with 11.

The organizers of the Bradshaw/Neu Tournament have switched to an online sign-up method for all players outside of members of Cottonwood Tennis Club. This method allows you to sign up with a partner, pay your entry fee and provide any play or day restrictions that you may have. The tournament begins on December 2. IronOaks tennis club members can sign up now to participate in two inter-club socials. These events provide a great opportunity to meet and mingle with players from other clubs. Each social will start with a morning of tennis and end with light lunch.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 4, so you won’t miss the IronOaks Tennis Club “Welcome Back fall Fiesta” and Clothing Sale. The event will begin with the clothing sale at 9 a.m. followed by social tennis at 10:30 a.m. and ending with a festive free lunch at noon. The planning committee is looking for fiesta items to add to the decor. Avid tennis players from IOTC gathered on Friday, August 25, for the first “Serve & Sip” evening event. By starting tennis play after the sun had set, they were able to enjoy an hour of friendly tennis followed by social time on the veranda. A good time was had by all!

Attendees of the IronOaks Tennis Club’s Annual Pancake Breakfast, celebrating the 4th of July, enjoyed a delicious spread of pancakes, sausage, and fresh fruit, after playing early morning tennis. The patriotism and pride was evident by many sporting red, white, and blue. Even the oven like temperatures didn’t dampen spirits, as the patio misters kept everyone feeling comfortable and cool. Monday, 6/19/2023 - Help Celebrate Independence Day on July 1

IronOaks Tennis Club invites all members to join in the celebration of Independence Day week with pancakes and tennis. This traditional highlight of the summer tennis season will be held on Saturday, July 1. The morning will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a few rounds of social tennis followed by delicious member-prepared pancakes, sausage, fruit, coffee, and juice, at 9:00 a.m.: all for only $5! Members should sign up on the bulletin board outside the fitness center to register. Spouses and guests are welcome to attend. Don’t miss this chance for good food, good friends, and good tennis! Sign-up deadline is Monday, June 26th.

Friday, 4/28/2023 - Potluck Dinner Success

The Year-end Potluck at Poolside on Sunday, April 23, was a huge success with over 70 IOTC members attending. You now have another chance to test your tennis skills at a "neighborhood" USTA Tournament to be held at the Ocotillo Village location at Alma School and Ocotillo. Tuesday, 4/11/2023 - Play It Forward Charity Event was a Huge Success

IronOaks Pickleball and Tennis Clubs’ “Play It Forward” Charity Event, benefiting Neighbors Who Care, quickly crushed their goal.

The $10,000.00 goal doubled to $20,000.00+. This was accomplished with donations from sponsors, members designating their AZ Tax Credits to NWC, the Pay to Play at the Charity Event, and over $2,000.00 in 50/50 contributions. Additionally, many homeowners were in a giving spirit.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who played, volunteered and donated. A special “shout out” to Sprouts Farmers Market for providing lunch for 200 participants.

Tuesday, 2/14/2023 - Annual Valaentine Social - 2023

IOTC held is annual Valentine’s Social on Saturday, February 11th. Participants played four rounds of tennis with random pairing that gave players the chance to meet new friends. The afternoon ended with ice cream sundaes and the amazing cookies made by Carol Mellinger.

IronOaks Tennis Club hosted two combined smaller clubs, Springfield and SunBird, on Saturday, February 4 for a morning of tennis matches that concluded with a light lunch enjoyed by all. Thanks to the IOTC VOS team "The Young and the Restuvus" for their many volunteers who made this event a success!
